Jay's Steak and Hoagie Joint

Today we re-open Blogs of Cheesesteaks!!!

Starting the re-opening with our good friends at Jays Joint in the Parkland neighborhood of Langhorne, PA just outside NE Philadephia off RT1 North in beautiful Bucks County.

Now Jason Green of Lower Bucks started back in 2005 when he took over the Steak & Hoagie Factory in Penndel PA. He decided in 2012 to break away from the franchise and suddenly Jay's Steak & Hoagie Joint was born. Jason took the Steak & Hoagie Factory idea and expanded the menu and improved so much. He also started doing gluten free menu items and a bunch of home made items like his hand battered chicken fingers, turkey, roast beef and some killer meat balls.

Cheesesteaks and comfort food isn't all that Jay does though, he's a very big deal in the local community he served daily.  For years now Jay has been donating to local food banks and other benefits and started something called Letters For Liam which you can read about here (Letters For Liam). All in all Jay is a big dude with an even bigger heart.

Now Jay had some landlord issues and  re-opened for business in Parkland minutes from his original location on Bus 1 and went to Parkland which is referred to as "Between the 1's". There is a ton of history on this small community in Langhorne and I'm sure Jay would love to tell you all about it. A few select residents including Jay have an old book all about the area too. Where jay is was originally a gas station in the early days and now is the new beginning for Jason and his community.

Now I haven't told you much about the food but Jay's is an award winning cheesesteak and while Steve's is a few minutes away, we all go to both. Throw Jay's Joint into Google and find all sorts of articles loving him just for the type of guy he is with a killer Pretzel Roll steak and the Beer Dip made with beer from or local Broken Goblet Brewing Company. There is something for every taste at Jay's Joint and here in Langhorne Jay's is one of the best. Like always Jason Green is "changing the world, one cheesesteak at a time."

Thanks for reading,
J Ksiazewski

Dalessandro's Steaks and Hoagies Review

It's been quite a long time since I posted here. Anyway let's get to it.

Dalessandro's is a little sandwich shop in the Manayunk area of Philadelphia. They are quite well known for there cheesesteak and had been voted Best of Philly and also featured in Gourmet Magazine. It was also #10 of Glen Macnaw's Ultimate Cheesesteak Challenge.  For this I have personally been wanting to taste this famous cheesesteak for myself for quite a while now.

First impression of this place reminds be of any other small town sandwich shop.  It has a basic menus of items with a counter bar seating area.  This place seems like it would be a tight squeeze when it gets busy too.  One thing I never knew about this place is that it has quite a good bottle list to keep up with the city craft beer scene.  As a man who has tried many cheesesteaks each of these places have there own character and its always different.

For the cheesesteak I went for the typical American cheese with fried onions.  The roll was the signature Amaroso's roll which is always bay far a staple to the cheesesteak.  My order came really fast which is normal for these places. The steak was chopped, which is usually a hit or miss compared to the sliced steak I usually find.  I tend to see chopped as more of a pizza shop type steak and usually dry and flavorless.  At Dalessandro's this wasn't the case because it was juicy and full of flavor. Which is much more then most I have had.  Personally I love this steak, it was a lot better then any restaurant or diner or pizza place steak I  have ever had and definitely goes on my top ten cheesesteaks.  I will be happy to go back again for there beer selection and excellent steak.  So Dalessandro's lived up to the hype and I'm glad to have spent my afternoon with you guys.  So if you're in that area or what to take a drive out there it is definitely worth a try.

Johnny's Hots Review

Today I decided to stop at a sausage and steak place called Johnny's Hots.  Even though they are known for there famous hot sausage, I was there for a classic cheese steak that recently won Best of Philly in 2010.  To start off the location has minimal parking so park on a side street and walk down.  Also this is your standard outdoor shop so if its cold bundle up or eat in your car.

So about the cheese steak. It's really good and flavorful. the steak is chopped up like you would see in a sandwich shop or pizza joint. It is served on your classic Philly roll just like most of the shops in the Philadelphia area.  The only thing I wish Johnny's Hots did was use the cheese they give you with there awesome cheese fries for the cheese steak.  This place was definitely worth it and I would love to stop back in for some of there other menu items. Also if you plan on going down, the place is closed on Sunday and its open at 4.30 am every day till 3pm and closes 2 pm on Saturday. so this is more of your lunch hour place.

Capriottis Sandwhich Shop Review.

A while back i got a cheese steak from Capriottis.  Its your typical chopped steak on fresh rolls and the steak was very flavorful.  Just what you would expect from a franchise sandwich joint.  It's nothing like your Philly favorites but the menu is quite large and you bound to find something you will love.

Pepper Mill review

The Pepper Mill cheesesteak was probably one of the best cheesesteaks I've had outside of Philadelphia.  This review has been needed for a while now.  The cheese was evenly melted through the chopped steak. It seems chopped or not both can be very good though I prefer the authentic sliced meats.  The place atmosphere definitely has a home style welcoming feel to it and this place had an awesome menu.  The steak was equally flavorful and well cooked to perfection, the roll was fresh and not chewy like some of our popular steaks I dont mention out of respect.  I think if your in this area of Pennsylvania you definitely gotta try the steak and park out back. If I was going to rate this steak I'd say 1-10 its a smooth 9.

Gaetano's Steaks review

Hey all.its Dave here with a review of Gaetano's Steaks in Croydon.

While this place operates like any other pizza shop, it's the sandwiches that make them shine. They are simply huge. If you're looking for a filling meal look no further. The first thing you'll notice about this sandwich is its soft, thick roll scattered with sesame seeds. Typically im not a fan of seeds, but this roll helps make the sandwich. Like any other pizza place, Gaetano's chops their steak. It's far from mince meat though, because you definitely get sizable pieces. Steaks can be served with American, provolone and cheez whiz, but the waitstaff will always recommend going with "real cheese." So do I. When I order American or provolone cheese it's always melted properly and mixed in with the meat for a fine consistency. All in all you'll get a great sandwich

As a final note, this place operates like any other pizza shop. There's a full line of appetizers to choose from, and they're all great. This place is a bit pricy, but you'll certainly get what you pay for; huge portions that taste great

Steve's Steaks Review

Dave and me have been going to Steve's a lot simply because of the location in Langhorne is close.  Steve's steak is really good. It's served on an amazing long roll topped with medium cuts of steak topped with a molten lava flow of cheese...just with the cheese it sets them aside from most.  Also we love the cheese fries too.  Each time we go we usually get or steaks a different way then previously but we usually do wit or witout onions and American or whiz cheese. Sometimes I've put hot peppers and or hot sauce on the steak too.  I have also had a chicken cheesesteak a few times and its just as good.  Steve's is definitely one of our top steaks and they see us there as regulars mostly because its local.  I personally have eaten at every location too.  My personal favorite thing to do after a long day is to grab a 6 pack of beer in the bar and a cheesesteak from Steve's.

Chink's Steaks Review

Visited Chinks last week. Me and Dave got cheese steaks with American cheese and fried onions and a single order of cheese fries.  The steaks were a great size and we loved the roll. The steak was good quality and wasn't to stringy or chewy it was really good.  The fries were a tad to salty but still good.  We would of preferred the cheese on the fries though.  The location wasn't to bad and the service was great.  All the girls were really nice to us too.  We hope to go back again soon and try something different.
